Coasters Host the Sleepy Hollow "Festival of the rolling Arts"

As promised by our location on the Sunshine Coast the annual Sleepy Hollow Rod Run was a huge sun-filled success. After months of planning, prodding, pleading and pushing, Chairman Lloyd Bingley and the Sleepy Hollow Rod Run Committee pulled off a very successful weekend.

It all started on Friday August 8th with the biggest rod run out to Halfmoon Bay that we have ever had. We had 340+ cars make the return trip to the firehall to the delight and amusement of a couple of thousand waving and cheering roadside fans. The run was met with rave reviews by all that viewed the fantastic cars and trucks that participated. This was followed up by a corn roast at the Mason Bluff Turf Farm where there was also free camping for the weekend for participants.

Saturday was a hot and sunny day with 391 vehicles on the streets for the Show and Shine. What a treat for the viewing public and participants alike. There were vehicles there to suit everyone's fancy. With an ongoing, long winded and occasionally informative day of banter on the microphone, I received nothing but praise for our event by everyone that came by the announcing table. We had a ladies poker walk, an engine blowup, plenty of door prizes, lots of cold pop and hot dogs to keep everyone happy.

That evening we had the usual dinner served by the local Rotary Club followed up by a dance at the Turf Farm. A good part of the evenings activities was being able to view many of the cars parked there at a more leisurely pace. This also gave us a chance to meet and greet many of our new and returning friends and talk about their cars.

We were in competition on the weekend by another activity called the "Festival of the Written Arts''. But when you viewed the Rod Run, the Show and Shine and all the weekends events our aptly titled "Festival of the Rolling Arts'' was bar none the more exciting of the two events.

On behalf of the Coasters Car Club, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to all the out of town guests and members of the BCHRA for coming to our Annual Event and we welcome you back same time, same place next year where we will keep on growing and trying to make this the friendliest and one of the best destination rod runs you can go on.

Yes, the Sleepy Hollow run. This is " A MUST " run for every car nut out there. I've been traveling to rod runs in Canada and USA for the past 14 years ( since 1989 ) and have never been on such a great run. It's " THE CRUISE " on Friday that makes it. The perfect area, great people, awesome rods & customs of all sorts, and what follows thereafter. Keep it up Coasters, I'll be back.

What is not to like about the Sleepy Hollow run? We really enjoy the cruise night, the hospitality of the residents and all the good natured jabbing between the Chevy power boys and the Pontiac Power boys that was a constant within our group.
Keep up the good work Coasters Car Club. We will all be wishing the year away waiting for the next Sleepy Hollow Run. We will be there!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the Hospitality was wonderful. The two highlights of the Run were the Cruise on the Friday night. The atmosphere created by the spectators with their enthusiasm was infectious and the fact that the ladies are kept interested with the Poker Walk and the Craft Show. It's important to keep them happy. Right guys?
We did the hike at Skookumchuk with our friends from Edmonton..For me that was quite an accomplishment for I haven't been physically active for several years..We also went for dinner with our Edmonton friends to Molly's Reach. Those flatlanders really don't know how to eat Prawns. We took the Circle Package from Nanaimo and ended up in Comox..We would highly recommend that tour anytime. Looking forward to next year and seeing quality cars and exceptional people..Definitely a "Highlight" of our year..Thanks to all the guys and gals of the Coaster's Car Club.

ps~ The races took me back to the late 70's..It was "great"..

Anyone who hasn't been to the sleepy hollow run doesn't know how much fun they are missing--the Friday nite cruise is like none other--the Sechelt people are what makes it --the corn roast -the barn dance-- the down town show---all 1st class and you bet I'll be back next year again----

Well done, again, to the Coasters Car Club. We appreciate all the hard work, you have done, to put together such a fine car show as this. It takes a lot of hard work from special people, to put together such an ‘Awesome’ car show weekend.

I too, enjoyed the Friday night cruise the most. With all the people at the end of each driveway and groups of people lined along the roadsides, was something to see and be a part of. The people are just so encouraging and appreciative of our presence there. That is very nice to see from a small community such as Sechelt. The small town atmosphere is alive and well. I hope it stays the same for years to come.

Thanks again, to the Coaster Car Club. Keep up the Good work!! See you in 2004!!
