I am pleased to report that the BC Collector Car Council has been successful in its efforts to have the “Collector Plated” vehicle emission testing program modified.
A new testing procedure will be put in place on April 1, 2002. It will consist of an “idle only” test for “ALL” collector plated vehicles.
It will be performed as a two speed idle test to a maximum of 1500-RPM. This new testing procedure will still be effective in identifying problem vehicles that are in need of repair. Vehicles that are tuned properly and are performing as they were produced at the factory should be able to pass this test. The Dyno portion of the test procedure has been removed in the interests of safety.
This new test
procedure will be applied equally to both modified and stock collector
plated vehicles.
THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT STEP FORWARD. All other criteria will remain unchanged for the time being. The Council is currently developing a protocol designed to address the identification of Collector Plated Vehicles for which the current standards are too high.
I am also very
pleased to report that at future meetings of the Collector Car Council a representative
