A Brief Club History

The British Columbia Hot Rod Association is an organization formed in 1957 by young men and women interested in unifying the rapidly increasing number of hot rod enthusiasts.

Their aim was to promote the safe construction and use of motor vehicles with strict adherence to the governing law and regulations.

Hundreds of members represented the many newly formed clubs throughout B.C. at regular meetings held for the purpose of sharing ideas to encourage safety, to develop the sport, raise operating funds and enjoy various car related events, while working towards obtaining a site for a drag racing strip.  A major hurdle for this new group was to put “respectability” into the title of hotrodder and show the public they weren't’t just a ragtag bunch of greasers.

An Association newsletter named "The Headliner" was one of the first programs enacted that 'spread the word' of all the activities and accomplishments of many of the clubs over the years of its existence
.

In 1997, a reunion of over 500 original members, their families and their friends gathered at the PNE grounds, an original meeting place, to renew old acquaintances and relive the early days of hotrodding in B.C.  The reunion rekindled the desire of many of the attendees to revive the Association and now boasts a membership of over 235 men and women of all ages.

The newsletter, "The Headliner" has again become the means of communication monthly, and a program to preserve the history of hotrodding in B.C. from its

inception through the collection of memorabilia depicting the sport, the hobby, the vehicles, the events and primarily the individuals who made it happen has been adopted by the current membership.

If you are interested in attending one of our meetings, they are held on the first Tuesday of each month at the West Langley Community Hall, at 208th and 94th Ave. in the Walnut Grove area of Langley, starting at 7:30 PM
